  1. In rain or marginal conditions such as fog, turning your landing light on may cause a glare to appear through your windshield. This glare may dazzle or surprise you and may tend to upset an otherwise good approach. Additionally, this glare may obscure the runway lighting which you need to keep in view in order to set up your touchdown.
  2. Nov 28,  · Usually commercial pilots turn their landing lights on when taking off (when lined up the runway and when they have clearance for takeoff) and when airborne below 10,ft. On arrival – landing lights are turned on when aircraft passes 10,ft and they stay on until runway is vacated.
  3. As you approach your round out and flare, the lights can be blinding, making is very hard to see the runway itself. And when you can't see the runway, it's hard to make a good landing. Solution: turn the lights down to low or medium intensity (3 or 5 clicks on CTAF) when you enter the pattern.
  4. Jan 19,  · Clicking seven times within five seconds when you’re five miles or less from the airport activates them, and the lights stay on for 15 minutes following activation. Some systems allow pilots to adjust the lighting intensity: three clicks for low, five clicks for medium, and seven clicks for high, once it’s been activated.
  5. Install floor-style recessed lights around a landing perimeter or in each riser. Alternatively, you could mount recessed lights low in the wall, six or so inches from the floor to cast light across.
  6. Landing light is very, very bright. You turn it on when you want to see what's in front of the aircraft, or you want everybody to notice you. On a clear night you can easily spot an aircraft heading towards you with its landing light some 10 miles away. When you enter a runway, you turn on the landing lights as a way to shout "I'm here.
  7. Dec 09,  · When the landing gear is down and locked, they go to a steady light. Our aircraft will not pulse with the landing gear down and locked. We turn the switch on below FL for the reasons mentioned in the other responses. The only time we set the switch to "ON", is if you are in the clouds below FL and you dont like the pulseing sensation.
